Something I've always found annoying online with the Zelda fandom is a lot of people portray Dark Link as a dishonest murdering sexfiend. While if you're looking at Dark Link as the complete antithesis of Link I agree that's a valid view to take of the character, I feel that that interpretation is pretty shallow without an active Ganondorf making his puppet dance, so to speak. It's a good take, to my mind, in a fic where Dark Link isn't the focus, but since I am focusing on him here (and I do so love tragic characters) I wanted to take a different approach.
After playing Tales of the Abyss I got to thinking about clones and like characters in other games and something that came up, aside from the mass tragedy of the Clone Wars in Star Wars, was Dark Link. He really struck me as tragic in that he was created specifically to defeat Link and not even as a final boss. It's like Ganon wasn't sure it would work, or even knew that when he made Dark Link that he was too much like his original and gave him enough information and programming so that he might succeed but was generally certain he would be defeated and Link would simply move on. Or maybe he just made an enemy with Link's face in order to unsettle him and deter him from his quest. There's any number of reasons, but they all lead back, for me, to Dark Link being every bit as tragic as Luke or Ion from Abyss. He was created for one purpose. He doesn't want to do it, but it's all he has as an identity and I'm really enjoying exploring what Dark Link does when he has that taken away versus when he has his need to be his original nurtured.
tl;dr I put waaaay too much thought into a little mid-boss character, lol
PS: Your Signless is completely wonderful. I never thought another character could draw out Dark Link's childish tendencies so fast but your portrayal of Troll Jegus here, even with very little source material, is fantastic and I look forward to Dark Link coming to see him as a mentor quite often.

Ahem.
Star Wars nerdery got out, whoops.
Anyway, let's hear it for totally minor characters getting fleshed out and expanded and being awesome together!

And yes! Yay minor characters! I'd love to hear the motivations behind your Signless that you've extrapolated~

Are you on Plurk? I'm missazrael over there, you should join us over there, where I blather about Signless and Equius and all sorts of stuff on a daily basis. And I'll be happy to share some of Signless' motivations, buuuut if you're a Christian, some of them could be percieved as borderline blasphemous, and I don't want to offend you. So please, if that would offend you, let me know and I'll keep them to myself. If not... get ready for a novel.

And yes, I am on plurk. Reikofanel. I'll go add you now :D

So, okay... basically, I was raised Christian but then fell out of the religion when I was a teenager and started studying history. I realized that I couldn't get behind a religion that, while I rather liked the ideas of Jesus, had so much blood on its hands through the ages. I now identify as Miscellaneous whenever anyone asks me; it's a lovely blend of Taoism, Christianity, Hindu, Jedi Knight, and that one episode of Futurama where Bender meets God. However, I'm pretty familiar with the Biblical stories (the interesting ones) from all the church I got dragged to as a kid.
I try and play Signless the way I imagine Jesus would have acted during his lifetime, which I view as this very nice, very kind and empathetic guy, who never really thought he was anything special, just a carpenter with a slightly different spin on things. Take that personality, put it into a violent, constantly warring state, and you've got Signless. I know a lot of other RPers play him as the Sufferer, where he's angry all the time and is more like Karkat 2.0, but I didn't want that. First of all, I can't write Karkat worth a shit, so trying to play Signless that way would have ended in failure. Also, it's a lot more interesting to see how people react to him when he's this incredibly sweet, gentle personality who has time for everyone and only wants what is best.

PS: My moirail has decided to reserve D. Strider for the next round of apps so I'm considering apping a Homestuck character then but I'm not sure who since I've only ever really played Jade, who's taken, and even that was in passing. Any suggestions? ^^;

You want a Homestuck, huh? The cast is pretty big right now, but we're a welcoming group! I personally would love to see a Bro in the mix, but then I'm biased towards all things Strider. I personally take the approach of going "hey, this guy is cool, why don't I slap an app together and see what happens!" Like, literally. I did that with both Equius and Signless.

Oh man, Bro would be fun. I do love me some Striders too. I'm not sure I feel confident in his voice though, especially since my headcanon for him is incredibly complex as an inadvertently abusive guardian X.x; (I could go on for pages.)
